To support their expanded marine environmental monitoring responsibilities under
the Marine and Coastal Access Act Sussex IFCA decided to develop their marine survey
capability on the FPV Watchful. The WASSP multibeam system met their needs by allowing
them to collect habitat information as part of their existing activities without
the need for external organisations.
The WASSP sonar was installed by Tate and Crewe in Eastbourne and has been in constant
use since June 2011. By mounting the WASSP on the hull a much better result is achieved
than pole-mounting the transducer, with no need to re-calibrate the system or adjust
how the vessel is operated. The WASSP was interfaced to the vessels existing Olex
system.
